The Las Vegas Review Journal reported that one person was injured following a six-vehicle crash on northbound U.S. Highway 95 near Jones Boulevard, in central Las Vegas, on Thursday, February 20th. The crash reportedly involved a school bus, but no children were on the bus at the time of the crash.
Further information about the cause of the Las Vegas car accident was not available. The Nevada Highway Patrol was the agency investigating the U.S. Highway 95 Crash. We hope everyone involved in this multi-car crash makes a full recovery. These multi-car crashes and their aftermath are frightening, stressful events for all involved.
Personal injury liability for multi-vehicle accidents
Multi-vehicle crashes are sometimes called chain-reaction accidents or pile-ups. We see them often in high-speed situations, when one vehicle crashes and others are not able to stop, but they can occur at any time. Some of the worst pileup accidents have involved reduced visibility from fog, rain or snowstorms.
Other chain reaction crashes occur when drivers encounter stopped traffic or construction zones. Vehicles may be hit more than once following the initial collision, making determinations of fault extremely difficult and vigorously defended.
For example, if a car was hit three different times by vehicles that were unable to stop, it can be virtually impossible to establish which impact caused an injury, and which party is financially responsible. Placing blame on other parties is a common tactic, and injury victims may even have to defend themselves against other injured parties.
Recovering damages for personal injuries
If you’ve been injured in a crash that was caused by another driver, time is of the essence. Witness recollections and evidence can disappear quickly following a crash, and law enforcement agencies will quickly put together their report detailing their investigation, which may or may not be detailed.
Especially in a multi-vehicle collision, each party will individually contact their insurance companies and there may be finger-pointing against other parties and other various delays, deny and defend tactics, along with general under-valuing of serious injuries.
It is important to establish what happened, how you were injured, and how your injuries impacted your life, job, and family. A lawyer can help you document your injuries and protect your rights to compensation for your medical care expenses, lost earnings, and pain and suffering, along with negotiating a settlement out of court or taking a case to trial. If necessary, an independent investigation into the cause of the accident can be arranged.
